As Director of Dunecrest American School, it is my privilege to extend you a warm welcome to our school community. Dunecrest is a happy and exciting place to learn and work, where student-teacher relationships are outstanding, warm and mutually respectful.
We believe in placing the student at the center of their own education and that learning is a lifelong experience. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and to support others in their efforts. We expect teachers to lead by example and demonstrate that they are reflective practitioners. Reflecting our school motto “Raising Student Achievement Every Day, Every Way,” we strongly believe that we raise students’ achievements when there is a school culture where students and staff are happy, feel valued and experience an abundance of varied learning opportunities.
"We do not mold our students into what we want them to be, we simply unfold what is within"
We have an inclusive community approach to education. We are strong advocates of Student, Teacher and Parent Voice. We encourage parents to be actively involved in our educational partnership and we keep them informed of progress and concerns. Students, teachers and parents are also given the opportunity to contribute to decision-making processes at appropriate times. We are proud of our established community partnerships and the positive and uplifting community spirit that you will sense when you visit the school.
Together as a learning community we will continue to set and achieve the high standards that are expected of us. Our goal is to be a vibrant learning community that nurtures and empowers well-balanced global learners who understand and respect multicultural diversity.
Our students actively learn from the experience of inquiry-based, real-world tasks and projects that extend beyond the walls of classroom and subject boundaries. These require a high degree of ingenuity, determination, collaboration and use of technology. Personal development activities increase their self-awareness, help develop new skills and require them to engage with issues both within and beyond our school and local community. We promote a culture of self-awareness and personal development, and understand the importance of developing the whole child, so that they graduate with the characteristics of the International Baccalaureate® Learner Profile.
"The most important person in our school is the pupil, the most important asset is the teacher."
As a successful school we will never stand still; we will continually strive for excellence by monitoring and evaluating our progress so that we know exactly where we are and what we need to do to improve. We know that the quality of the teacher in the classroom is paramount to achieving academic excellence.
